Zoom releases new update after global outage; service restored

Last night, Zoom experienced a global outage as users complained of unable to join or start a meeting. Soon after the video conferencing platform acknowledged the issue and noted, We have received reports of users being unable to visit the Zoom website (zoom.us) and unable to start and join Zoom Meetings and Webinars. We are currently investigating and will provide updates as we have them.”

The Zoom team took a few hours to issue the fix to the outage. At around 10:10 PDT Zoom restored its services. “We have resolved the issue causing some users to be unable to start and join Zoom Meetings and Webinars or manage aspects of their account on the Zoom website,” the company said.

Further commenting on the matter Eric S. Yuan founder and CEO of Zoom said, “Today Zoom had a service disruption that affected many of our customers. We know the responsibility we have to keep your meetings, classrooms & important events running. I’m personally very sorry & we will all do our best to prevent this from happening in the future.”

The video conferencing platform has now released a new update as well. Users can head over to their respective app stores and connect device to a stable WiFi network to install the update.

According to downdetector website, the outage occurred mostly around across the United States, with the most reports on the East Coast, and also in Europe.

Users depend on Zoom not just for professional video conference but also webinars, classes, among others. Schools across the world depend a lot on the video conferencing platform for their online classes amid the pandemic.
