Shah Rukh Khan bagged the Filmfare Best Actor Award for his portrayal of Hockey coach Kabir Khan in Shimit Amin’s Chak De! India. The sports drama was produced by YRF.
The megastar of Bollywood and ‘King of Romance’, Shah Rukh Khan broke his stereotypical image of a chocolate hero with two of his best films, Swades and Chak De! India. Talking about the latter, SRK’s portrayal of Hockey coach Kabir Khan didn’t only garner him accolades, but also became one of the highest grossing films of that year. While we can’t imagine any other actor in the shoes of this impeccable character apart from SRK, you’ll be surprised to know before him, the sports drama was offered to another Khan, who is none another than Salman Khan. Before the release of Sultan during a media interaction, when Salman Khan was asked about this offer, he jokingly said, “Chak De was offered to me but I left it because even Shah Rukh Khan should be a part of a few great films.” Though later, he revealed the real reason and said, “When I was offered Chak De, my image for totally different as I was doing Partner and all those kind of films. My only thing in Chak De was that my fans would expect me to wear a wig and win the match for India which would not go for the film.”
He added, “That was not my genre at that point of time. It was more serious kind of film and I was doing more of a commercial kind of cinema which I am still doing. I would never move out of commercial cinema zone but it is just that there would be a lot of meaningful cinema in the commercial zone.” Well, watching Salman Khan as Kabir Khan, would definitely have been an altogether different experience. What say?
On the professional front, Salman Khan is gearing up for the release of Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai, which is scheduled to hit the screens on May 13. On the other hand, Shah Rukh Khan is busy with the shooting of Sultan, which will hit the screens in 2022.
