EXCLUSIVE! Mahavir Shringi On Avoiding VFX For Koi Saath Hai, “Films Like Baahubali Have Used It & Earned A Lot”

Many Bollywood films have not been able to release in the theatres due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. One such film, whose release date had been pushed, was Koi Saath Hai. The film, directed and produced by Mahavir Shringi is finally set to release on 16th October 2020.

We got a chance to speak to the talented filmmaker, who hails from Rajasthan. Eagerly awaiting to show his film Koi Saath Hai to the audience, the director revealed that the idea behind this movie is inspired by childhood stories of ‘chudails’ narrated by grandparents.

Koi Saath Hai is a story of 5 friends who are on a road trip from Delhi To Jaipur, and on reaching their hotel, decide to call the spirits for fun. What happens later will definitely be a fun ride for all of us, as Mahavir has amalgamated the horror genre with bits of comedy.

Talking about the star cast of the film, he revealed that apart from directing and producing Koi Saath Hai, Mahavir has even acted in the movie. He will be seen playing the role of a cop who tries to save these 5 friends.

The cast also includes Sikander Chauhan, who will be playing the role of the male ghost. Sikander is a prevalent name of Rajasthani cinema and is known for his roles in films like Laal Kaptaan (2019) & Kota Junction (2015). Another interesting name in the star cast is that of Rajesh Dubeay, who plays a ‘Tantric’ in Koi Saath Hai. He will also be seen in the Akshay Kumar starrer Laxmmi Bomb, reprising the same role.

Neet Mahal, a famous face in Punjabi cinema, will be seen playing a ghost. Along with her, the film features Priya Tiwari who has won the crowns of Miss Universe Super Model India 2018, Miss Bharat Earth 2017 and Miss Madhya Pradesh. Another name in the star cast is that of Aasma Sayed, popularly known for her role in Gandi Baat.

Talking about the shooting of Koi Saath Hai, Mahavir Shringi revealed, “The main USP of the film is that we have shot it in real locations. We were actually shooting in ‘shamshaan ghats’, and we could see a dead body being burnt next to us. I have focused on realistic things more.”

The director further revealed that he had not used any VFX in the making of Koi Sath Hai. Talking about this, he said, “Films like Baahubali have used it and earned a lot, which is good. That is not the problem; the problem is that we have already seen all this long back on Cartoon Network. VFX destroys a film, that’s all. I have not used a single VFX in my movie; everything is real.”
