6 Popular Bollywood Films We Wish Had a Sequel

2021 is the year of Bollywood sequels, with films like Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, Badhaai Do, Dostana 2 and Bunty Aur Babli 2 hitting the theatres soon. There are a lot of expectations from these films since their predecessors were blockbusters, but we can only wait and see if these sequels are successful on their own.

However, today we will not look at film sequels but rather popular Bollywood films that we wish had a sequel. From knowing more about these characters to getting a different perspective to the stories, a lot of Hindi films could have benefitted from a 2.0 version.

Andaz Apna Apna

Even when fans got their hopes high that filmmaker Rajkumar Santoshi was planning a sequel to this hilarious 1994 comedy, the reports of a new film were quickly shut down. That was disheartening to find out because a potential Andaz Apna Apna 2 would have worked quite well too. The film is timeless, and we cannot get enough of Amar and Prem’s antics after all these years. However, the MVP of the film is Shakti Kapoor’s Crime Master Gogo and we would willingly watch an entire franchise of him stealing whatever he can because he is a ‘Khandaani Chor.’

Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham

The thing about a big and dysfunctional family is that it is prone to eruptions at the slightest inconvenience. The dramatic Raichand family too, like a big Jenga tower, a little pull away from crashing down. Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham could be about a new kind of family dispute, say the brothers fight this time? Or the sequel could focus on Rahul’s son Krish, who we are guessing wasn’t really that pleased to have moved back with his grandparents in Delhi. Whatever it is, we would definitely watch it. If we are being honest, we just want to hear Poo saying “Good looks, good looks and good looks,” one more time.

AndhaDhun

AndhaDhun

Every time you watch AndhaDhun, you spot a new Easter egg that makes you question everything you thought you knew about the film. A masterpiece like this deserves a sequel for us to take another look at Akash’s story. There are several fan theories about this film, and it would be interesting to have some answers, or even to be left with more questions. We just want to experience that thrill of watching a film like this for the first time, again.

Zindagi Milegi Na Dobara

At the end of the movie, before they run in front of the bulls, Kabir, Arjun and Imraan make the decision to change the way they live their lives. We want to watch how that unfolds. What happens when Imraan actually starts writing for himself and showing the world his art? Did Kabir find someone else after breaking off his engagement with Natasha? We also want to see Arjun and Laila’s life after they get married. Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara can also be spun into a Hangover-style franchise. The three besties need to make a plan and go to another exotic location for our sake please!

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani

Yes Bunty and Naina did get together at the end, it was clear that in order to stay together, they would have to compromise on their professional careers. Bunty sacrificed the chance to work on a show he loved. On the other hand, Naina would have to uproot her medical practice and leave her family behind to be near him. Not to mention that Bunty and Naina did not even date properly before he popped the question. So the question remains, would they be together and fight through it all or the weight of the things they lost will fall heavily on their new relationship? Give us a sequel already!

Jab We Met

Can we agree that there has rarely been a character written in Hindi cinema who is as interesting as Geet in Jab We Met. The film saw this bubbly girl get her heart broken and then find love with Aditya Kashyap, a man who was polar opposite to her. Jab We Met is arguably Imtiaz Ali’s best film and we would love to watch more of these two lovable characters. Not to mention watching Kareena and Shahid on-screen again would also be an absolute treat.
